How do you make a range to include connected clips?

I have a primary clip and two two-frame connected clips connected to it. Earlier today I selected all three as a range and exported it. But I can't duplicate it now! What is the secret? (Yes, I know you can make a compound clip. But I could swear I did it directly somehow. If you know how, please do tell.) Thanks!
