How to stop the bookmarks sidebar from sliding in on Safari

This question was asked 5+ years ago, so thought I'd check in. I have Safari 13.0.5 and when my mouse is on the left edge of the screen, the bookmarks sidebar slides over the page. This is really annoying and leads me to accidentally click bookmarks and redirect to pages I don't want to be on several times a day. Pretty much happens every time I use YouTube and click off the video to remove the video player controls.

Is there any way to turn this off, or is there a viable work-around?

I use Safari because Chrome & Firefox drain my battery too much by comparisin.
