2017 iMac 21.5 microphone issue

System Preferences>sounds displays the page which says

Input highlighted

Internal Microphone. (type) Built in.

My FaceTime contacts cant hear me when I call them. The internal microphone volume slider is on full i but the levels indicator doesn't move when I speak However, if i tap the screen i can see the levels increase and decrease

I have dictation turned on. Nothing is on mute

I've looked for the where the micro[phone should be (circle with lots of little holes), but can't find it.

Looking in system preferences>sounds I've checked the ? icon which has a section

"you can use your computer's internal microphone, your display microphone, IF IT HAS ONE (my caps)

Does the Internal Microphone actually exist on this model of iMac
