MacOS SMB – Can't load folders with 100,000+ files

I've been experiencing an issue browsing network directories that have 100,000+ files using SMB. It will load indefinitely and prevent other network folders form being navigated until finder is forcefully quit and the share quickly ejected. I've tried the performance enhancement tips from here (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208209); but they did not help.

In my test I have 100,002 files in a directory.

With AFP on MacOS Sierra; it took 54 seconds to load its contents.

With SMB on MacOS Sierra; it went 25+ minutes and nothing ever loaded….not sure it ever will.

On windows; the contents loaded in 10 seconds.

I think network communication needs overhauled with MacOS
