iMac

Cannot delete duplicate applications

When I got an iMac retina I was invited to transfer my files from my old device to the new, which I did.

I now find that all the applications have been copied over as well, so I now have 2 lots of each which is quite annoying when looking in finder.

I cannot delete either of them by any of the means given on the internet.

What does not work:

a) dragging to bin from finder – just pops back

b) Right clicking does not give a delete option

c) One suggestion was to use 'application preferences' but this does not seem to exist on my iMac.

d) Another was to use easi*** but the mac refuses to open that app.

I would be grateful for any suggestions that actually work.

Thanks
