How to Apple-spacebar search only 1 disk, but search all disks from Finder windows

When I press Apple-spacebar, and type an application name, I only want it to return results from the boot drive (I have it set to do applications only). However, I'd like to be able to type in document names into a Finder window's search bar and have it search all attached disks. Is it possible to set it up like that?
